Two cars were damaged after a fire broke out in High Wycombe this weekend – with neighbours awakened at 2am by ‘really scary’ flames and sirens.
One resident of Cotswold Way who wanted to remain anonymous said they were woken up by a neighbour “screaming and banging” on their door at around 2:30am on Sunday, October 20.
The neighbour in question had been returning home in the early hours when they spotted a car on fire in the small housing cluster.
Seeing it had already spread to another vehicle, they began waking up others in the area and urging them to move their cars before the blaze wreaked havoc on a wider scale.
“It was really scary waking up to that scene,” the anonymous Cotswold Way resident told the Free Press.
“I have a young child and there have been things that have made me afraid for our safety before, like someone trying to open our door, but this was the middle of the night and there was just so much going on.

“The fire had completely destroyed one car when we woke up and had damaged the other one – if that neighbour hadn’t happened to get back late, I think all our cars would have been on fire.
“Luckily, a few people were able to move them, which stopped the domino effect of cars catching light and the fire brigade was very quick to work on putting it out.”
A spokesperson for the Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said one crew and engine arrived at Cotswold Way at 2:26am on Sunday.
They added: “A car was well alight on arrival, spreading to another car. The firefighters used one set of breathing apparatus, one hose reel, a set of hydraulic spreaders, small gear and lighting.
“The car was 100 per cent destroyed by the fire and the second car was approximately fifty per cent damaged by the fire.”
