Buckinghamshire was the focus of two episodes of Escape to the Country in recent months.

The first, which aired initially in April, learnt how a British couple, who had lived abroad for the past decade, had decided to move back to the UK and settle in the Thames Valley.

The second looked at the village of Olney, and the surrounding areas in the north of the county.

In the first episode, husband and wife Alan and Amy explained that they had initially spent six years out in the Middle East, before leaving the Gulf State for the US in 2020.

At the time of their interview with the popular BBC programme, they explained that they had moved seven times in the last 10 years, and decided that relocating to the UK would help their two children ‘settle’.

They looked at various houses in both Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, with the show focusing on the two counties’ ‘natural beauty’, whilst also praising the wildlife and quintessentially British aspects of living in villages in the area.

The areas they looked at were Loosely Row near Princes Risborough and Marsh Gibbon, which is on the border of the two counties.

They looked at three properties, and ended up finding a house eight miles of east of the latter.

The couple were searching for a house with price of approximately £800,000 with four bedrooms, with a child-friendly garden.

The home also had to be within walking distance of a school and pub.

Whilst this exact location wasn't specified in the programme, eight miles east of the village is Quainton.

The BBC programme also got shots of several areas with in South Buckinghamshire, with snippets of High Wycombe, Princes Risborough, Marlow and Amersham all being included.

Former Mayor of Amersham, Elizabeth Shepherd, told the Free Press: “The Escape to the Country team were making a programme about why people should escape to the Chilterns, and they did some filming in Amersham.

“They came last year but the episode was recently broadcasted as I had people telling me that I was on the TV!

“It was very good fun.”

Amersham resident, Sejal Sachdev, who moved to the UK from Uganda in 1972, and had lived in the town since 1994, added: “I have lived here for 30 years and I love being part of this community.

“Producers from Escape to the Country asked us why we love living in the area, and we said how great Amersham was.

“When I first moved here, I was warned that it wouldn’t be the most friendliest of places, but, it has been wonderful.

“I love living here.”

In another episode that was aired in September, the Escape to the Country team returned to the Thames Valley, but looked at the areas in the north of Buckinghamshire for people to visit.

One of the areas in question was Olney, which is set to be the town where the well-renowned Christian hymn, Amazing Grace, was written.
