One of the leading Asian caterers in High Wycombe is celebrating after they were recently awarded a five-star hygiene rating.
Abid Catering, which is based along Grafton Street, has gained a reputation as one of the best in their industry, as their high-end dishes from South East Asia have been dished out at certain events.
Some include charity events organised by boxer Amir Khan, as well as the wedding of Moeen Ali's sister.
The latter plays international cricket for England.
The establishment is also known for helping the needy in the area as they regularly donate surplus food.
And at the start of this month, they were given their latest five-star hygiene rating, following a recent inspection.
It is one of the many five-out-of-five scores they have gathered since they began trading 30 or so years ago.
Owner, Abid Hussain, told the Free Press: “Maintaining high standards is very important to us.
“We want all of our customers, wherever they may be, to enjoy our food and we take hygiene very seriously.
“It’s bad when you see caterers or restaurants have a low hygiene rating – it’s not that hard to keep it as a five.
“They know what they need to do so I’m shocked when it does happen.
“It has got to be a safe place to eat, and I think it’s sad when I see a low hygiene score.
“Even a three I don’t think is good – has to be a four or more, because how can you give food to people that is not safe for someone?
“If you like to eat clean and nice food, then you must serve clean and nice food.
“With that, we always make sure our standards are high as we aim to be the best.”
Abid, along with his brother Ayaz, were born in Pakistan but both moved to England three decades ago.
The former was taught his family’s ‘secret recipe’ which originates from Punjab, and after bringing their concoction overseas, they began to serve their food at small parties for friends and family in their High Wycombe back garden.
This led to the creation of the business, which has seen them cater for events all over the UK.
When asked about the furthest location, Ayaz said: “We’ve done places like Manchester and all over London, but I remember we went to Northern Ireland once.
“We had to ferry everything over and we made it work.
“People can easily use caterers closer to them, but as they have heard about the food we produce, as well as reading our reviews, they contact us which is great.
“We are going from strength to strength.”
The business is family-run run with many of Abid and Ayaz’s relatives working alongside them.
One of which is Abid’s 23-year-old, Zeeshan, who said that working for the business is like ‘looking after a baby’.
He explained: “When you have a baby, you need to treat it carefully, with kindness, and with care.
“It’s about seeing it be born and the progress it makes over the years, and I’ve enjoyed working here.
“It’s been great fun.”
At the time of writing, Abid Catering has an average score of 4.7/5 from 192 Google Reviews.
