Conservative MP for Beaconsfield Joy Morrissey has launched a petition against the Labour government’s plans to ‘call in’ a decision on the future of Marlow Film Studios.
Ms Morrissey pledged to be a “loud voice in parliament” and “take Labour on” after holding onto her seat in July – and stayed true to her word by challenging housing secretary Angela Rayner’s decision to have the final say on a multi-million-pound film studio proposed for greenbelt land near the A404 in Marlow this week.
Buckinghamshire Council refused the £750 million development in the spring, but developers Dido Property Ltd launched an appeal of the decision in September and an inquiry is set to begin early next year.
The Beaconsfield MP has been a vocal critic of the Marlow Film Studios project throughout its long and twisty planning journey and has gained local praise including from the Save Marlow’s Greenbelt campaign group for taking up their cause.

She has now called upon more of her constituents to make their voices heard by signing a Conservative Party petition calling on Keir Starmer’s government to “ensure the (local) greenbelt is protected from inappropriate development, particularly from Marlow Film Studios”.
Ms Morrissey described the ‘calling in’ of a decision on the project as “a direct attack on the voices of Marlow residents who have stood united in their opposition (to it) from day one”.
Adding: “I have written to the secretary of state to express my full concerns over this damaging decision.
“It is vital that our community’s wishes are respected and that we protect our precious greenbelt from developments that will forever change the character of our area.”
