A pub turned all-day diner has reopened after five years – with a new owner hoping to win customers over by serving up traditional English food with a Lebanese twist.

The Deep Mill Diner on London Road between Amersham and Great Missenden closed its doors in the summer of 2019 when its owners retired three decades after turning the old Royal Oak pub into a pitstop on the A413 that just happened to boast “the best full English in Bucks”.

After sitting empty for half a decade, former hairdresser Nadia Majid decided to take on the vacant unit early this year – poaching her head chef dad from Mayfair’s Al Hamra restaurant to bring the unique flavour combinations she’d grown up with to the people of South Buckinghamshire.

The new-and-improved diner briefly opened over the summer but, after a water leak issue exacerbated by uncommonly bad weather, Nadia pushed the official reopening back to the autumn, with a revised launch date of last Thursday, October 10.

While the title of restauranteur is a new one for the Londoner, she has worked in hospitality all her life and is hoping to translate her family’s passion for food into a rewarding enterprise offering locals something a cut above standard pub or diner fare.

“We were looking at restaurant units all across the outer London area – in Windsor, Beaconsfield and Slough. But when this one popped up, I was convinced by the big parking area and the history of the site.

“There’s already a customer base here too, who we can hopefully keep happy and give something new and interesting to, as well.”

Alongside a classic full English, the diner menu features Lebanese kebabs, falafel and kibbeh, as well as Mediterranean fare including beans, spicy sausages and feta rolls.

Early Google reviews have praised the “great and friendly” management and “brilliant” food of the new spot, and Nadia said the welcome from Great Missenden and Amersham locals – and drivers stopping off on the A413 – has been entirely positive so far.

“I gave up hairdressing when I got married and had kids, but I’d always wanted to do something like this – especially with my dad. We wanted to share the love of good food that’s always been so important in our family.

“Finding this place has turned that hope into a reality – and everyone who’s come in so far has been happy to see us. There’s such an atmosphere of excitement, and we’re only just getting started.”

The Deep Mill Diner is open between 7am to 7pm from Monday to Thursday, until 8pm on Fridays, from 9am to 9pm on Saturdays and 10am to 6pm on Sundays.
