A theatre company is gearing up for a new production of Blue Stockings.
Fourways Theatre Company will be staging the play at Wycombe Abbey School, with performances on October 24, 25, and 26.
Evening shows are scheduled for 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2pm.
Jessica Swale's Blue Stockings is set in 1896 at Girton College, Cambridge, and follows four ambitious female undergraduates.
They strive to gain formal degree qualifications akin to their male counterparts, a privilege not extended to women at the time.
The play depicts their fierce academic pursuits and their battle for self-determination in a society that opposes them.
The title, Blue Stockings, refers to the Blue Stocking Society of the 1750s, a group of modern, intellectual women.
By the late 19th century, however, the term was often used negatively to describe educated women.
Wycombe Abbey School, founded by one of the original blue stockings, is deemed a fitting venue for the play.
