The M40 between High Wycombe and Stokenchurch was closed by police last night after a car fire – the latest in a series of traffic incidents on local highways this week.
Thames Valley Police received a report of a car on fire between junctions four and five of the motorway at around 8:30pm yesterday, Saturday, October 5.
A spokesperson for the force said the road between High Wycombe and Stokenchurch was closed "while the fire service dealt with the fire" but "reopened a short time after".
No injuries were reported.
It marks the fifth road traffic incident in the Buckinghamshire highway network over the last few days – with the M40 northbound entry slip from Handy Cross roundabout first closed by National Highways on Wednesday, October 2, after a collision.
Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Services were then called to an overturned car on the southbound M40 near Beaconsfield early on Friday morning, where a full carriageway closure was put in place and a man was passed into the care of the South Central Ambulance Service.
Two lanes near junction 5 were also closed on Saturday morning after reports of a multi-vehicle crash in the northbound lane between Wycombe and Stokenchurch – causing four-mile-long queues along the stretch.
And the A404 southbound carriageway between Marlow and Wycombe was shut off to motorists for nearly 20 hours on Friday and Saturday after a man in his fifties tragically died in a six-vehicle collision.
