A Great British Bake Off contestant from Buckinghamshire sparked concern after taking a fall in this week’s episode – as one baker dropped out and another fainted, prompting a third to declare they were ‘dropping like flies’.

20-year-old Dylan Bachelet, a keen skateboarder from Buckinghamshire, is the second-youngest amateur baker on this year’s instalment of the beloved formerly BBC One show.

He’s impressed judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with his bakes – including a ‘canopic jar’ illusion cake – so far but attracted viewer concern in this week’s episode after falling off his chair during a judging round, prompting fellow contestant Andy to suggest people were “dropping like flies”.

Dylan took the tumble while Paul and Prue were sampling the showstopper bakes on Tuesday, October 1, and – unlike Jeff from Yorkshire, who left the series citing bad health during this week’s technical round and Illiyin from Norwich, who fainted after a dizzy spell while creating the showstopper – he escaped unscathed and shared that he had actually just fallen while reaching for his water bottle.

The third incident in one episode did however prompt Hollywood, who hosted the series with Mary Berry before it moved to Channel 4 in 2016, to ask, “What the hell is going on?”

Dylan, who worked in retail before joining series 15 of the show, was described by Channel 4 as an “avid skateboarder” with a deep “curiosity for culture” and interest in 90s PCs and vintage cars in a biography provided ahead of the first episode.

He also reportedly enjoys experimenting with sweetness and space and is influenced by Japanese bakers, French patisserie chefs and – of course – his artistic mum’s love of painting.

We can only hope Bread Week takes less of a toll on contestants than Biscuit Week has!

The Great British Bake Off will return on Tuesday, October 8, on Channel 4 at 8pm.
