A petition has been launched to try and ‘harmonize’ the opening hours of a frequently-used leisure centre in Amersham.
The Chilterns Lifestyle Centre (which is also known as the Amersham Leisure Centre), along Chiltern Avenue, has a range of different opening and closing times.
Between Monday and Friday, they open their doors at 5.30am and close at 10pm, whilst on Saturday, they open at 6.30am and close at 8pm.
On Sunday, they began at 7am and finish at 9pm.
Despite this, 44 people have signed a petition to try and get the hours changed, so that the leisure centre’s gym and swimming pool are both open at the same time.
From Monday to Friday, the gym is open between 6am and 10pm, half-an-hour later after the leisure centre opens.
On the weekends, it is open for 12 hours between 7.30am to 7.30pm.
Beth Claridge, who created the petition, said: “ It's a routine for many of us to bring our children to the swimming pool for their training, but the delayed opening time of the gym on Saturdays significantly affects our ability to make the most out of our mornings and membership.
“Considering that exercise is beneficial to our health and well-being and fostering a sense of community is vital for societal progress, it is integral that the gym opens at the same time as the swimming pool.
“This change will allow many parents like myself to have a productive start to our weekends.
“Harmonizing the opening times of the gym and the swimming pool will enrich the lifestyle of many families in our community, and allow us to make more efficient use of our time.”
James Sexton, general manager, said: “After listening to customer feedback regarding our opening times, we have decided to trial extended opening hours at weekends.
"Starting from this week, the gym will open at 6.30am on Saturdays and 7am on Sundays.
"We hope this will accommodate residents who would prefer an early morning workout, and we will keep customers updated on how this goes."
