A woman from High Wycombe says she has been left ‘scared and outraged’ after allegedly nearly swallowing a wad of cellophane while eating a takeaway kebab.

The woman, who didn’t want to be named but is middle-aged and lives by herself in Wycombe, said her chronic pain means cooking is often not an option and has forced a reliance on cheap and cheerful local takeaways.

German Donor Kebab, a shop on White Hart Street has a five-out-of-five food hygiene rating, according to its most recent inspection in December 2022.

The woman said the restaurant is usually a reliable bet for “a basic meal of meat, salad and bread” but she has not been left impressed by her most recent order.

To her “dismay and horror”, she noticed a strange texture to the chicken in her Just Eat delivery on Tuesday night.

And was shocked to find “a wad of plastic wrap” in her dinner, “completely replacing” the meat she had ordered.

German Donor Kebab said it was "really sorry" about the incident.

The Bucks local said: “I was absolutely astonished when I pulled the plastic out, then I got really scared that I’d swallowed some of it and ran straight to the loo to try to make myself physically sick.

“I was up until 4am waiting for a doctor to get back to me – they told me it would hopefully pass and to contact them again if I felt really ill – and I woke up today with a splitting headache because of the stress of it all.

“Choking on something while I’m at home by myself is one of my biggest fears because no one would be here to do the Heimlich and save me.

“That was one of my first thoughts, as well as that if I’d been a small child or an elderly adult and hadn’t noticed what I was eating, I could have been in even more danger.

“I think it’s outrageous that they can get away with serving a meal like that. It’s just not good enough.”

A staff member at German Donor Kebab said they were “really sorry” about the incident and the Free Press was not able to contact the restaurant’s manager despite repeated attempts.

It’s not the first time the Wycombe branch of the global kebab chain has come under fire from customers since opening in August 2021.

A mum-of-two told this newspaper that her young children had been at risk of “getting very poorly” after the shop delivered raw chicken to her door in April 2022.

She received a full refund from the restaurant and a spokesperson said they would “fully investigate and address the matter”.
