Buckinghamshire Council has approved further funding for flood resilience projects.

The council has allocated £10.5 million to its Flood Capital Programme for 2025-27.

This funding will support various flood resilience and alleviation projects across the county, reducing the risk of surface water, ordinary watercourse, and groundwater flooding to over 200 residential properties.

The focus will be on communities identified as being most impacted by flooding.

Thomas Broom, Buckinghamshire Council’s cabinet member for Climate Change and Environment, said: "Many residents have suffered the impact of flooding in recent years.

"Last year was the wettest on record, and in the last few weeks consistent heavy rain has resulted in flooding in several parts of the county.

"The impacts of climate change will only increase the flood risk in the future.

"Therefore, it’s vital that we invest to help make communities more resilient to flooding, and I’m pleased that our Capital Flood Programme will be able to continue, following the release of this new funding."

Projects set to continue over 2025-27 include the Newt Ditch watercourse improvements in East Marlow, Pednormead End culvert replacement and property flood resilience in Chesham, and Thomas Harding School Sustainable Drainage Systems Retrofit.

Flood alleviation projects in Sands, West Marlow, and Tingewick, as well as the Buckinghamshire (Thames) catchment and River Leck Natural Flood Management projects, are also included.

These projects are expected to reduce flood risk, provide biodiversity benefits, and benefit residents' mental heath.

The council’s allocated funding is also being used to leverage further external investment.
