Fears have been raised over the welfare of the fish at Stoke Park, prompting plans to install a new filter system.
Buckinghamshire Council has approved proposals relating to the Koi carp pond on the 300-acre estate in Stoke Poges, which was taken over by the company run by Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest person, in 2021.
Planners approved new plant room facilities to serve the pond as well as the outdoor hot tub and spa facilities in the pavilion.
The existing filter for the pond is located outdoors and has deteriorated due to ‘prolonged exposure to the elements’.
Plans read: “The installation of a larger plant room will allow all the plant required to be located within the confines of the building, preventing deterioration and will ensure appropriate welfare of the fish.
“The current filters are not large enough to service the capacity of the existing pond and they are endangering the welfare of the fish.”
Planners also granted retrospective permission for the existing pond, pergola, decking and a concrete base for a shed.
They also gave permission for a new shed, as well as a small wooden bridge over the pond and fencing.
Stoke Park, which was used as a filming location in Goldfinger, includes a hotel, golf club and listed mansion, park and garden.
Stoke Park Limited, which was purchased by Reliance Industries in 2021, holds the long lease for Stoke Park, while the freehold is owned by Buckinghamshire Council.
