A woman is set to build a new padel tennis court next to her existing swimming pool at a farm in Buckinghamshire.

Mrs Gill Riley has been given permission for the project at Beechwood Farm off Little Twye Road in Buckland Common.

Design plans written for her read: “The client would like to construct a padel tennis court within their grounds, to provide an opportunity for family members to enjoy and improve their prowess within this new and exciting sport.”

Beechwood Farm, which is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Green Belt, has a garden with a patio and a grassed lawn, planting beds, trees and hedges, as well as an outdoor swimming pool and surrounding paddocks.

The location for the new padel tennis is next to the house, gardens and swimming pool, and is ‘substantially screened’ from view by existing trees, fences and a hedge on the property’s boundary, according to the plans.

Building the court will see eight trees of varying sizes removed, but it the applicant proposes to plant six new trees to the south of the court.

The court will measure 10m by 20m and be made from tarmac and concrete with a green carpet finish.

Padel tennis, which is popular in South America and Spain, is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. It shares similar characteristics to traditional tennis and squash and is played within an enclosed court.
