Drivers faced queues of up to five miles after a car caught fire on the M40 near High Wycombe yesterday.
Motorists bracing against the rain and wind also had to reckon with long waits on the M40 between High Wycombe and Stokenchurch yesterday afternoon after a car was found on fire along the stretch.
Two fire engines and crews from High Wycombe and Thame were called to a spot between junctions 4 and 5 of the motorway at 1:16pm on Thursday, September 26.
They closed the hard shoulder and a lane of the stretch while a man and woman were recovered from the car using breathing apparatus, a hose reel, a thermal imaging camera, an emergency care kit and an environmental grab pack.
The two passengers were reportedly passed into the care of the South Central Ambulance Service and the incident was left in the hands of Thames Valley Police, who reopened the lane at around 3pm.
