High Wycombe has been named one of the UK's top university areas for quality nightlife.

Research by security experts at Get Licensed revealed that all bars and clubs in the town are rated three stars or above.

However, it ranks 43rd in terms of overall quantity, with 11 bars and clubs per 100,000 people.

The study aimed to identify Britain's best and worst university nights out by examining the number of pubs, bars, and clubs, the cost of a pint, taxi fares, and the safety sentiment.

Shahzad Ali, CEO and security expert at Get Licensed, offered advice on staying safe during nights out.

He said: "With fresher’s week approaching, university students will be looking forward to going on nights out, making new friends, and getting used to their new home town.

"However, they must know how best to stay safe during this excitement.

"Before going out, make sure your phone is fully charged and that you have the contact details of others in your group, this way you can get in touch with one another if you get split up.

"It can also be good to take a group photo before heading out, especially for those who have only just met - this way you can help recognise each other and the outfits you’re all wearing if anyone gets lost."

Durham was crowned the best university area for a night out, for safety, high proportion of bars and clubs. London was deemed the worst city for a student night out, scoring 1.36 out of 10, with the highest beer price.
