Thunderstorms and heavy showers are expected to cause disruptions across Berkshire this weekend.

A yellow weather warning was released on Friday, September 20, and will carry on throughout Saturday (21/9) and Sunday (22/9).

Although some areas are suspected to remain dry, the MET Office has issued a warning to look out for disruptive weather conditions that may cause power cuts, travel issues and flooding.

A spokesperson from the MET Office said: “Whilst there is some uncertainty in the details , scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across parts of southern England and spread northwestwards through Saturday morning before showers develop more widely later in the day.

“While much of the time it will be dry, with not all places seeing showers or storms, where they do occur 20-40 mm could fall in less than an hour, with a small chance of isolated accumulations of 50-80 mm over the course of a few hours.”

A spattering of hail and frequent lightning is suspected to accompany the most intense storms.”

People have been warned to check if their property could be at risk of flooding and prepare a flood plan.

To prevent travel delays, travellers are warned to check road conditions and bus/train timetables.

On Sunday (22/9), the MET Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain with some chance of thunderstorms.

This will still bring with it the possibility of disruption.

A spokesperson from the MET Office added: “There is potential right across this highlighted region for some areas to see 30-50 mm in less than 6 hours, with a few places receiving 60-80mm over the course of 12-24 hours.

“Southwest England looks likely to see some heavy rain during the early hours of Sunday morning, breaking up into slow-moving, heavy and in places thundery downpours during the day time.”
