A Buckinghamshire museum invites visitors to come and celebrate 200 years since the naming of the first ever dinosaur this September.

Discover Bucks Museum in Aylesbury is marking the milestone with a 'Bucks Dinosaur Day' on Saturday, September 28, from 11am to 3pm.

The event will celebrate the naming of Megalosaurus bucklandii, the first-ever dinosaur species, and will feature a range of activities for all ages.

Visitors will have the chance to meet dinosaur experts from the Oxford Museum of Natural History and the Isle of Wight’s Dinosaur Isle Museum.

There will also be an opportunity to learn about local geology from experts at the Bucks Geology Group, who will help visitors identify their mystery rocks and fossils.

Craft activities, including making dinosaur fossils, decorating dinosaur masks, and learning how to create a pipe cleaner dinosaur friend, will take place in the family fun zone.

A sensory story time session will be held at 11.30am, featuring a dinosaur-themed story suitable for young children and children with special educational needs.

The museum has advised that non-gluten-free flour will be used for fossil making, so visitors with allergies should inform the museum in advance.

Admission to the Dinosaur Day event is £2, with ticket upgrades available for full access to the Discover Bucks Museum and the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery.

The museum, located on Church Street, Aylesbury, is home to a variety of displays, hands-on objects, and activities related to dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals.
