A Conservative Chalfont councillor’s plans to demolish her bungalow and replace it with a new four-bedroom home have been approved.

Isobel Darby’s proposals for Mindle Cottage on Copthall Corner were unanimously backed by her fellow councillors on Tuesday night (September 17).

Members of the east Buckinghamshire area planning committee voted to recommend that the planning director approved her proposals.

Cllr Darby, who represents Chalfont St Peter, plans to build a 1.5-storey dwelling with a permeable gravel drive and carport. Floorplans show two studies, a sheltered garden, a patio, steps up to a raised garden and a new chain link fence on the property boundary.

The new home will also feature roof tile-style solar panels integrated into the tiling of the roof, which are ‘likely to be connected to a battery for off grid storage’.

A planning statement by Architecture For Better Living reads: “The project brief set out to craft a home that evolved with its occupants, ensuring accessibility and support as they age.

“This was particularly crucial given that one of the clients has ongoing Parkinson’s disease, necessitating a layout that fosters independence through thoughtful design.”

During Tuesday’s meeting, Conservative councillor Patricia Birchley said: “I think it is pleasing on the plot. It is probably more modern than the house it is replacing.

“It is very in keeping with the properties on either side. The roof is lower. The solar tiles are very neat. There is not much not to like frankly.”
