A stretch of the A41 near Aylesbury has been closed after damage to a gas main during an HS2 project.

Buckinghamshire Council’s highways arm warned drivers this afternoon to avoid the A41 near Waddesdon after an emergency road closure was enforced to “allow repairs to be made to a gas main”.

The gas main was damaged during work to realign the A41 across a new bridge straddling the HS2 route.

A spokesperson for Waddesdon Parish Council confirmed that the road would remain shut until “the early hours of the morning at the earliest”.

Adding: “All council work is being paused in the area to get diversions in place.”

A spokesperson for HS2 Ltd said: "An emergency road closure has been put in place to allow SGN to make repairs to a gas main alongside the A41 near Waddesdon.

"We're sorry for any inconvenience this has caused and we are working closely with them to get the road open as soon as it is safe to do so."

The A41 Bicester Road was previously closed between 8:30pm and 5:30am from September 6 to September 9, also for construction of the high-speed railway.
