Universities across the region have shot up a major university league table, with their courses ranking alongside some of the best across the whole of the UK. 

The Guardian University Guide 2025 - which rated 122 universities - has Oxford University in first place, St Andrews in second, and Cambridge coming in third. 

The University of Reading, in Berkshire, has jumped nine places to go from 44th to 35th. 

Meanwhile, Buckinghamshire New University has risen 12 places to take the 65th spot - as well as ranking third for teaching quality and first in the nation for satisfaction with assessments and feedback for students.

The University of Reading also ranks in the top 20 for 12 subjects, including fifth for Earth and Marine Sciences, sixth for Nutrition and Food Science, and seventh for Graphic Design. 

Professor Parveen Yaqoob, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading, said the new ranking "confirms Reading’s reputation among the top universities in the UK."

She added: “University league tables help to provide a flavour of an institution but for those who are considering studying anywhere we always recommend visiting us at Open Days to see our beautiful campus and to chat to our staff and students."

Buckinghamshire New University was ranked highly for the amount of money it spends on each attending student, coming in at fourth place across the UK.

The university also came third for it Mental Health Nursing course and 9th for it General Nursing course. 

BNU continues to be rated highly for the expenditure it dedicates to each student, retaining its position as the fourth highest in the UK.
