A school in Chesham has been called "exemplary" in a recent Ofsted inspection that graded it as "Outstanding" in all areas.

Brushwood Junior School, in Brushwood Road, was inspected in June this year, with inspectors finding it offered pupils a "phenomenal education."

In the Ofsted inspection report, an inspector said: "Pupils thrive in this school. They greatly appreciate the phenomenal education they receive, and levels of attendance and punctuality are high.

"The school has the highest expectations for pupils in every aspect of school life. Pupils achieve very well because they learn from expert staff who teach with clarity and precision."

The report added: "Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary."

The school supports 256 pupils, who build an "incredibly positive relationship with one another and with staff," according to the inspection report.

The report added: "Classrooms are abuzz with industrious learning. Pupils broaden their horizons and develop their character during their time at this school. They work with tenacity and resilience and are proud to ‘flearn’, stating that they cannot learn if they do not fail first."

Schools are graded on quality of education, behaviour and attitudes of staff and pupils, personal development of children attending, and leadership - with Brushwood Junior rated as Outstanding in each area.

The school was commended for its rich and ambitious curriculum and its culture of aspiration and continuous improvement.

Headteacher Joanne Robertson was "absolutely thrilled" with the inspectors’ findings.

She said: "This outstanding rating is a fantastic testament to the dedication and commitment of the entire staff team, who put children first in everything they do."

The school had been given an overall rating as Outstanding in 2012 and as Good in 2007.
