Over 1,000 walkers took part in the recent Chilterns 3 Peak Challenge in aid of Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care.
Taking place on Sunday, September 8, the 15th anniversary of the fundraiser saw its biggest turnout to date and broke the charity’s previous records.
Walkers who registered for the challenge ventured through the beautiful Chiltern Hills and at the time of writing, a brilliant £82,660 has been raised for Rennie Grove Peace through a combination of ticket sales and sponsorship.
The 1000th walker to register for this year’s event was Andrew, from Princes Risborough, who walked with his wife, Marie.
After completing the walk, he said: “We like taking part in the Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge as it is a very well-organised and fun event that raises funds for a great charity.
“This year was no exception – it was another great event with the added challenge and excitement of a thunderstorm during the walk!”
One walker who had a strong connection to the charity was Clare Brunton.
She was joined by three generations of her family, as they took part to thank the charity for the care her mum received before she died earlier this year.
At the start line of the walk, Clare said: “My mum, Sue, was cared for by the Hospice at Home team before she died in March.
“The nurses were all so kind and caring that we wanted to take part as a family to say thank you to the charity and remember mum.
“There are eight of us taking part today, ranging in age from 11 to 71.
"We’ve all customised our t-shirts with photos of mum and are looking forward to doing something positive together to celebrate her life.”
Emma Stewart, Events Manager at Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, said: "The Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge has become bigger and better each year and we’re delighted that the 15th anniversary event has been the biggest one yet.
“Over the years, it has received incredible support from the local community.
“The event simply would not be possible without the walkers who take part and raise funds through sponsorship.
“We must also give thanks to the volunteers who give up their time to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible.
“We’d also like to extend our gratitude to headline sponsor Origin Doors and Windows, along with R. Benson, Clear Insurance Management, and Wendover Wood, who supported this year's event.
“All money raised by this incredible event will be used to provide vital patient care in our community.”
Even though the event has taken place, members of the public can still donate.
