The Whiteleaf and Chequers Circular has been ranked as the seventh best pub walk in England, in time for autumn.

Outdoor experts at Millets have compiled a list of the best pub walks in the country, based on accessibility, family-friendliness, and the presence of a pub along the route.

The Buckinghamshire route, a 11.3 kilometre walk in the Chiltern Hills, was ranked seventh out of 10, taking walkers through the scenic countryside. The route was given a rating of 4.7 out of 5 and takes around three hours and 10 minutes to complete.

The top spot on the list was taken by the Seven Sisters and Friston Forest Circular in East Sussex, which has a rating of 4.8 out of 5. The 12.7 kilometre walk takes visitors past a series of chalk cliffs and through forest trails, with a National Trust cafe along the way.

Other walks on the list include the Seaford to Eastbourne route in East Sussex, the Mam Tor and The Great Ridge walk in the Peak District, and the Buttermere Circular in the Lake District.

The study also looked at walks in England that were child and wheelchair friendly, as well as those that pass a pub, to reveal the best accessible walks by their ratings and the number of reviews.

The Elterwater to Skelwith Bridge walk in the Lake District was named the best family-friendly walk in the UK. The five kilometre trail is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and mountain biking and is accessible to wheelchair and pushchair users.

Natalie Byrne, author and outdoor enthusiast at Millets, said: "A walk is the perfect excuse to get all the family together and moving.

"To allow the whole family to get involved, it is a great idea to choose a route that is accessible to both wheelchairs and prams.

"It is also recommended that you check the difficulty of your walking route as well as the estimated time that it will take for the whole family to walk it.

"Of course, if you have any younger children or any slower walkers, allow for extra time to stop on your walk.

"Packing the correct equipment can make all the difference between a good walk and a difficult walk.

"I recommend a sturdy pair of walking boots that will support your ankles and be comfortable on longer walks.

"It is also a good idea to pack some lightweight waterproof clothing for the family."
