HM Lord-Lieutenant Andrew Try to open the new Crocodillo Compound at Longridge Activity Centre.

The new attraction is set to open officially on Friday, September 27, with an opening ceremony at 11 am.

The ceremony will also see the presence of notable guests such as Andrew Try, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Berkshire, Alexander Barfield, High Sheriff of Berkshire, Councillor Simon Bond, Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead, and representatives from the funding bodies.

The Crocodillo Compound, which received substantial funding from the department of levelling up's community grant scheme, features a new kitchen and a stretch-tented dining area.

Longridge Activity Centre, which caters to around 80,000 young people annually from schools across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, offers a variety of water sports and land activities.

The centre also provides glamping-style tented villages, and the centre has indoor accommodation for 20 guests, but plans are underway to increase this to 40.

This will be achieved by converting three temporary cabins into secure accommodation, which will complete the Crocodillo Compound.

The centre is currently raising the final £38,000 to help fund this plan.

Longridge has been providing outdoor experiences for nearly 100 years and is preparing for its centenary in 2027. The centre has plans to introduce a wild swimming area, archery, and a bouldering wall.

Starting in 2025, a new membership programme will be introduced, providing members with access to boat moorings, room hire, the swimming area, and more.

The membership fees will contribute to improving security, ensuring the safety of all visitors.

The opening of the Crocodillo Compound marks the final stage of Longridge's development plan.

The centre is looking forward to welcoming more young people to enjoy outdoor adventures throughout the year and hopes the public will join in on the opening day to explore the new area and learn more about the future plans.
