High Wycombe’s mayor believes an ‘upgraded’ Primark will play a huge part in the town’s ‘regeneration’.
Conservative Nathan Thomas, who is a councillor for the Tylers Green & Loudwater ward, was present at the shop’s recent opening on September 11 which saw thousands of customers visit the vicinity.
Huge queues were outside of the branch which has since moved from the Chilterns Shopping Centre to the Eden Shopping Centre, with the doors officially opening at 10am.
Many dignitaries from the council were in attendance, along with High Wycombe’s Member of Parliament, Emma Reynolds.
She was present for the grand unveiling, before heading to the House of Commons for Prime Minister’s Questions.
Mayor Thomas said: “The staff were very excited to see that dynamic with the customers was great.
“The shop has regenerated a part of the town that was perfect for the store.
“The people coming in were so excited to see an upgraded Primark in the town, and this makes me proud to know that we are restoring corner spaces in the Eden Centre.
“Primark has always been a big store for the town in terms of footfall and business, but more importantly, they kept all the jobs and they are looking to expand and have transferred everyone across.”
Conservative Councillor, Mimi Harker OBE, was also present.
She said: “The atmosphere was electric, the excitement was tangible and the sheer fact that this is going to be so good for High Wycombe as it’s going to bring many people here.
“It’s a beautiful store for a start, and they laid it out beautifully and it should bring life into that part of the town.
“And it has given life to a truly magnificent building.
“Everyone here really missed House of Fraser and I remember going in there on my lunch breaks.
“Now, I can pop into Primark instead.
“And the fact they cater to everyone which is also very important.”
The store is open seven days a week.
