A woman has been handed a £600 fine for fly-tipping after giving her rubbish to two men who dumped it on a Buckinghamshire roadside.
The woman, who lives in Slough, paid two “men with a van” £50 each in cash to dispose of the rubbish alongside the value of the scrap metal they also removed on July 25.
The waste – which included pieces of cardboard, stools, and a tarpaulin bag – was found dumped on Trenches Lane in Wexham later on the same day.
The woman managed to avoid prosecution by paying a £600 fixed penalty notice, but the two men, who managed to dodge identification, got off scot-free, with no further investigation.
She reportedly hadn’t checked who they were before handing them her waste, or if they were authorised to take it away.
As part of its ongoing campaign against fly-tipping, Buckinghamshire Council became the first in England to take advantage of new powers to use dashcam footage to aid prosecutions this summer.
The local authority also raised its maximum fixed penalty notice for the offence from £400 to £1,000 last year in the hopes of tackling a record-breaking rise in the number of fly-tipping incidents between 2022 and 2023.
