There were approximately three miles of traffic along the M40 this evening due to a serious crash.
At around 5.30pm, the emergency services were called between Junction 5 near Stokenchurch and Junction 4 near High Wycombe following a collision between a car and a lorry.
Due to the incident, lanes two and three were closed.
Delays lasted for roughly 45 minutes as officers from Thames Valley and Buckinghamshire Fire made the scene safe.
Lands eventually opened roughly an hour later.
At its peak, congestion lasted for approximately four miles, and motorists making their way home were advised to find alternative routes.
