Have you ever wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? With more than 6,000 villages across the UK there is something in every county with an entire community to welcome you.

From fairytale English hamlets to seaside hideaways, The Times has put together a list of the top 20 secret villages that will guarantee you a stress-free and peaceful life.

For Buckinghamshire residents, the village of Whiteleaf has made the list of unsung villages that is a popular place to disappear to among those in the know.

Amenities, size and property prices have been analysed to select the top 20 and this Bucks gem has come 16th on the list.

Barely big enough to be called a village, Whiteleaf, has been described as a ‘wooded oasis in the Chiltern Hills’ that is the ‘perfect balance of rural and commutable’ by Andrew Dollemore, local head of sales at Hamptons estate agency.

Although it sits a little further from London than towns such as Beaconsfield, house prices in Whiteleaf have reflected this, with ancient cottages costing around £600,000 despite soaring house prices in surrounding Bucks towns

Amenities in the quaint village include a pub and a golf course. However, what makes this village special is the selection of charming homes that wouldn’t look out of place in a fairy-tale book.

Although Whiteleaf is considered a secret village, it sits just 5 minutes drive from Princes Risborough where there is plenty of shopping and eating options.

Other nearby villages found on the list include Broughton in Hampshire and Ockham in the Surrey Hills.
