A house in Buckinghamshire has been significantly damaged after being by a bolt of lightning.

A property along Glynswood Road in Buckingham had a ‘direct hit’ following the recent storms that have impacted the South East of England, with the image being taken in the morning of Sunday, September 8.

The emergency services were called to the house just before 4am on the same day to control the fire and to asses the damage.

A statement from Bucks Fire and Rescue said: “One appliance and crew from Buckingham, one from Brackley, two from West Ashland, along with an officer attended.

“The firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, a 10.5 metre ladder and a thermal imaging camera.

“They also isolated the gas and electric supply in the property.

“The crews carried out re-inspections of the property throughout the day until the evening to check for hot spots.”

The Met Office had issued a yellow warning for ‘heavy and thundery rain’ across southern England across the weekend.

And as well as the storms arriving in the early hours of Sunday morning, heavy rain hit the Thames Valley on Sunday evening.

In a statement, a Met Office spokesperson said: "Looking further ahead, and we’re likely to see fresher, cooler temperatures sweeping across the UK, becoming notably cool in the north by mid-week.

"Conditions look to remain generally unsettled during next week, with showers or longer spells of rain at times for most regions, accompanied by blustery winds."

There were no reported injuries following the lightening strike in Buckingham.
