A personal trainer in High Wycombe has been nominated for two prizes at this year’s National Fitness Awards.
Hilary Spearing, who runs the Functional Fitness Studio on Cryers Hill, has been recognised by the NFA for her hard work over the last 12 months, as her business is up for the ‘functional training gym of the year.’
On top of this, the fitness fanatic has also been personally nominated for the ‘Gym-based personal trainer of the year’ prize.
The two nominations come one year after the PT finished second in the ‘functional training gym of the year’ category, and she’s hoping to win top spot.
The PT’s business caters to those who are not able-bodied and primarily helps individuals who are battling degenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease, multiple sclerosis and arthritis.
Speaking on the news, she said: “I would like to thank my clients and my amazing children for their belief in me and their support for what I do.
“After a very challenging personal time over the past 12 months, I have continued to work hard for my clients and their goals.
“I am blessed to have a career doing what I love and I like to think that shows, bringing my a-game to every client session, despite personal challenges.
“My studio has been shortlisted in the category of functional training gym of the year, and I have been personally shortlisted as gym-based PT of the year.
“Last year, I was runner-up in functional gym of the year, and this year I am proud to have been shortlisted for two categories.”
The annual event recognises the excellence and achievement in gyms throughout the UK, with shortlisted facilities being as far north as Aberdeen and as far south as Devon.
The awards are organised by Script Events in conjunction with leading fitness industry magazine Workout, with support from headline sponsor ServiceSport, and in each category up to nine finalists have been selected, who will now go through to the next stage of the judging process where they will be out to impress by showcasing first hand the great work going on in their clubs.
This stage involves a visit to each finalist by a member of the awards team who will take a look around the facilities and chat to members and staff before compiling a comprehensive report, which will then be passed on to an expert judging panel to decide the lucky winners.
Trophies will then be handed out by one of Britain’s most famous athletes, Derek Redmond at a glittering awards ceremony on Friday, November 29 at The Athena in Leicester.
National Fitness Awards’ event director Dominic Musgrave said: “The National Fitness Awards are now in their 14th year and with more entries than ever before, our finalists really have reason to celebrate too as it’s a huge achievement to have made the shortlist.”
