Global Educational Trust (GET) has opened its first 'books for free' unit in High Wycombe, which is also its first space in Buckinghamshire.
The charity recycles books which are otherwise destined for pulping or landfill.
At its books for free units, set up in collaboration with "altruistic landlords," patrons are invited to take away three books for free.
The new space is in Octagon Parade next to the Travelodge Hotel.
It is expected to be open "most days" from 10am to 4pm with the exception of Sundays.
Co-founder Yusuf Bashforth said: "With over 600 libraries having closed across the country in the past 10 years, the service that GET provides has become an essential resource for every community in which we establish."
An official opening event attended by the mayor of High Wycombe, councillor Nathan Thomas, took place on August 29.
Mr Thomas said: "It's nice to see retail units that would be left closed brought back to former use."
GET estimates that it gives away up to 1 million books per year, across (at present) 23 units.
