The Chesham Cricket Club grounds buzzed with excitement and energy as the community came together for the Chesham Community Cricket Tournament 2024.

Taking place on Monday, August 26, the event was held to raise money for Love Lowndes, a voluntary community group dedicated to revitalizing the playground in Lowndes Park.

The money raised will go towards improving the facilities for the children.

The day itself featured six teams divided into two groups of three.

The format was competitive yet friendly, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The semi-final winners then faced off in an exhilarating final match.

After a day filled with exciting matches, Toqeer Tigers emerged victorious, showcasing remarkable skill and teamwork.

In all, over 300 people from all walks of life attended the event, with organiser Waj Fayyaz describing the day as a ‘success’.

He said: “The spirit of the day was further elevated by the efforts of Chesham Cricket Club and its Chairman, Jonathan Royals, whose unwavering support made it possible to host this historic event in the heart of Chesham.

“The club’s commitment to community events like this reinforces its role as a central hub for local engagement and sport.”

“The success of the Chesham Community Cricket Tournament 2024 was not just about the matches on the field but also the seamless collaboration between different groups and organizations in Chesham.

“A special thank you goes to Chesham Mosque, Imran Rasool, Martin Woolnough, and the stewards from the football club who managed the car parks, ensuring that both cricket and football events could run smoothly side-by-side.

“Their coordination and teamwork are a testament to the strong bonds within the Chesham community.”

The money raised will go to Love Lowndes, a dedicated local community group, that has taken on the challenge of raising over £150,000 to transform the park's playground into a vibrant and inclusive space that reflects the aspirations of Chesham's residents and provides a safe and engaging environment for children.

After a year of relentless efforts, the group has raised an impressive £75,000—but there is still a long way to go to reach the goal.

Waj Fayyaz continued: “The day would not have been possible without the generous support of local businesses that donated items for the raffle.

“The raffle added a fun and exciting element to the event, raising additional funds for Love Lowndes.
