Dear Editor,

Chesham is not the only place suffering from vanishing litter bins.  We have the same problem in Marlow.  Within the last fortnight at least four town centre litter bins have been removed.  The first was at the bike parking lot in Higginson Park, the second at the entrance to the Court Garden car park and the other two in West Street.

I contacted Marlow Town Council but they correctly pointed out that litter bins are the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Council.

I have written to the latter to ask what is going on but, to date, I have had no response.

I have been for many years an independent litter picker in and around Marlow and can confirm that all the missing bins were well used, particularly those in West Street, which service the lunch time rubbish from the Borlase pupils.

In all the areas where bins have been removed the litter fall has significantly increased.

It seems an ill thought out and irresponsible policy to take away a lawful and effective way of keeping Marlow tidy.

Guy Greenhous,

Marlow
