An Amersham man will be doing his bit to try and help those in war-torn Ukraine by cycling to the Eastern European country.

Tom Harrison will begin his trek across the continent by starting in England, where he aims to cycle an incredible 90 to 100 miles per day.

He will cycle to Harwich before crossing Holland, Germany and Poland in his 1,300-mile ride to Lviv.

The Buckinghamshire dad also received a boost from local bike marketplace, Velo2Velo.co.uk, who have donated bespoke panniers and cycle kit to help Tom on his way.

He said: “It’s going to be tough, but it will be nothing compared to the struggles Ukrainians have endured over the last two-and-a-half years.

“I will keep motivated by reminding myself of UHF’s vital work and everyone who has donated.”

The quest is set to last around two weeks.

Velo2Velo’s managing director, Simon Sarahs, added: “Tom is setting the bar cycling to Ukraine.

“We are happy to help him get there and we'll be sure to let him use one of our ebikes on his return.”

As well as cycling to the country, Tom is aiming to raise vital funds for those in need.

He has set a £5,000 goal to support the work of the United Humanitarian Front and at the time of writing, £1,735 has been donated.

His page reads: “The United Humanitarian Front has been tackling the disaster in Ukraine by building new homes and repairing others.

“I am cycling to Ukraine to highlight the serious problems millions of Ukrainians still face and to fundraise for all of UHFs future projects.

“No-one should be without a home. Help me to help them by donating below.”
