A 24-year-old man who was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration has been given a jail term of five-and-a-half years.

Jack Powell, of Griffin Lane, Aylesbury, was convicted of his crimes by  unanimous jury verdict of the offences at the same court.

This is in relation to an incident that occurred on July 7, 2020, when Powell raped and sexually assaulted his victim, a woman aged in her 20s, at a property in the Central Buckinghamshire town.

He was arrested 10 days later on July 17, 2020 and charged with the offences on December 1 of the same year.

Powell began his sentence on Monday, September 2 after receiving his punishment at Reading Crown Court.

His crimes are as follows:

  • one count of rape
  • one count of sexual assault by penetration

Sergeant Samuel Summers said: “I would like to pay tribute to the victim in this case, as she has displayed tremendous dignity and bravery to support our investigation to bring Powell to justice.
