A memorial football match has been organised to honour a former Wycombe Wanderers foundation player who sadly died earlier this year.

Adam Ankers, 17, lost his life after suffering a sudden cardiac whilst playing in a fixture for the young Chairboys on Monday, February 5.

Despite the best efforts of on-the-field medics and as well members of staff from the Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Harefield Hospital, who unfortunately did not recover and passed away.

Following his tragic death, numerous clubs have paid their respects to the much-loved teen, with Wycombe remaining Adams Park to Adam’s Park for their home fixture against Oxford United six months ago.

The match will take place on Friday, September 6 at Risborough Rangers’ stadium, with the fixture kicking-off at 7.30pm.

Funds raised from the game will be used to purchase a cardiac screening programme at the Horsenden-based stadium.

A target of £8,500 has been set, with £2,095 being raised so far.

Their JustGiving page reads: “Since its formation in 1995, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD).

“CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research amongst its other activities.

“Risborough Rangers is planning to operate an annual CRY screening programme however the cost of running this is £85 per person (based on 100 screenings).

“It is therefore our aim to fundraise to ensure that no young person is excluded and hopefully we can reduce the cost for everyone.”
