Work to repair a sinkhole in Hazlemere has forced a section of road to close for one month, Bucks Council has said.

The unitary authority said on Monday that a section of the B474 at the junction of Curzon Avenue would be closed off until roughly October 1.

The council said the closure began on September 1 in details it published on the Causeway One Network website.

A spokesperson for the authority suggested that the closure would be in effect until the beginning of October, not the end or beginning of November as some residents had suggested on Facebook, using information from Google Maps.

It is understood that a footway closure will not be in place, with the work being carried out relating only to the repair and maintenance of the highway.

A resident registered a ‘hole’ in the road by Curzon Avenue in June of this year through the council’s ‘Fix My Street’ service.

Their report, which the council said was now closed, also read: “Traffic lights aren’t working properly long delays seem stuck on red, causing mayhem.”

Residents on Facebook questioned the timing of the works with children going back to school and suggested they would cause disruption.

The council has been approached for comment.
