Netflix crews will close a road in Beaconsfield this week as the streamer’s adaptation of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club continues to shoot across the county.
The star-studded production – which counts Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and David Tennant amongst its cast – appears to be making good use of Buckinghamshire’s leafy green towns and villages to replicate the murder-mystery novel’s fictional setting of Fairhaven in Kent.
After first being spotted on Stratton Road in Beaconsfield in July, crews decamped over the border to Theale before popping back this week to shoot at The Red Lion pub in Little Missenden.
And, naturally, while they’re in the area, the filmmakers look to be heading back to Stratton Road on Thursday, September 5, to capture extra footage of the pretty and affluent residential area.
The road will be closed between 8am and 8pm on Thursday, with access to residents and emergency services only.
Michelle Appleby, a staff member at The Red Lion told the Free Press last week that the bulk of filming in and around the pub was also slated for Thursday – for which a closure is in place on Village Road between 6:30am and 7:30pm.
The Thursday Murder Club, based on the first of Osman’s hugely popular series, first published in 2020, follows a group of retiree sleuths hot on the trail of a murderer.

The ex-Pointless host’s debut novel saw four members of the idyllic Coopers Chase retirement village – ex-spy Elizabeth (Mirren), ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), ex-union activist Ron (Brosnan) and ex-nurse Joyce (Celia Imrie) – band together in the name of justice, a cosy crime format that has reinvigorated the genre since its pandemic-coinciding release.
Osman confirmed on his The Rest is Entertainment podcast earlier this year that the film would be shot “from the end of June through to September” in England.
While no release date has been confirmed, the Chris Columbus-directed production is expected to be available on Netflix in late 2025.
Buckinghamshire has long been a favourite on-location spot for filmmakers, not least thanks to the number of studio complexes within commuter distance.
This summer has seen even more of a spotlight on the county than usual, however, with Emma Thompson and Hugh Jackman's quirky sheep-centric murder-mystery taking over Hambleden near Marlow at the beginning of July.
UKTV has also been shooting the second series of its adaption of local author Robert Thorogood's The Marlow Murder Club across its namesake town - making it an oddly genre-specific few months of moviemaking for the region.
