Pizza Hut has not responded to multiple requests for confirmation of rumours that its High Wycombe branch is set to close next month.

Staff at the branch on Ryemead Way in Wycombe Retail Park reportedly told customers last week that it was set to close by the end of September – with the town’s fifth McDonald’s slated to take its place.

However, despite repeated efforts from this newspaper to extract confirmation or denial of the plans from Pizza Hut, neither has yet been provided.

One of the diners told by staff in Wycombe about the upcoming closure was Robin Gardner, who said a server confirmed on Saturday, August 24, that the unit’s lease was expiring.

Robin said he was also told that McDonald’s was set to take over the site – marking its fifth branch in the town – although representatives for the popular fast-food chain said they are making enquiries about the rumour and could also not confirm or deny.

Reacting to the news, Bucks Free Press readers were largely opposed to the prospect of yet another McDonald’s in the area – with many calling for “something different”, should Pizza Hut have to go.

Michaella Owers suggested something “more convenient” be allocated to the site rather than “another fast-food place”, while Cathy Henshaw suggested “some kind of coffee shop” would make a better replacement and Kayleigh Sinsbury put her vote behind a Costa Drive-Thru.

Others expressed concerns over an increase in parking if the McDonald’s rumour materialises, with some suggesting that Pizza Hut would be best off moving back to its old spot in the town centre for ease of access and increased trade.
