Vache Baroque is set to stage a production of Pergolesi’s L’Olimpiade this weekend (August 30 and September 1) and next weekend (September 7 and September 8), with an all-new English script.

The event, hosted at the Vache country house estate at Chalfont St Giles, will be accompanied by immersive installations and sports-themed pre-show performances.

Director Laura Attridge has created a new English script to accompany the opera's Italian arias, so that Pergolesi's opera will be "sung in Italian, acted in English."

The venue's grounds will become an extended stage, with sports-themed activities and immersive elements providing entertainment before the main event.

On September 7, a 'relaxed' performance of the opera will take place, catering to audiences with young children or those with neurological or physiological conditions.

Artistic director & co-founder, Jonathan Darbourne, said: "With the birthplace of the Paralympics being only a few miles from the Vache, staging L'Olimpiade as our flagship opera felt like a no-brainer.

"Following our mission to make live music performance fresh and accessible, our multi-sensory project with BitterSuite, which champions blind and visually impaired creatives, is an exciting show we can't wait to share.

"We want new and seasoned audiences to feel the power and athleticism of Baroque music, and we're glad to bring it to them in true Vache Baroque style."

Since its launch in 2020, Vache Baroque has staged three operas and received a Newcomer of the Year commendation from Opera Now.
