Football icon Chris Kamara has been in Chesham to join the celebrations for an initiative that has transformed the kitchens of more than 100 grassroots football clubs.

Howdens' Champions of the Trade Day took place on August 20 at the depot on Moor Road as part of Howdens' Game Changer Programme.

The event saw Mr Kamara interact with customers and commemorate the 100th kitchen makeover.

Tradespeople were treated to on-the-day deals and had the chance to meet Chris.

There was also a prize draw for football merchandise and stadium tour tickets.

So far, the programme has bestowed 45 clubs with new kitchens, including MK United FC, Cambourne Town FC, and Luton Town Ladies FC.

The £3m investment scheme, driven by Howdens in collaboration with England Football, seeks to support grassroots football by improving clubhouse facilities and fostering tighter community bonds.

Mr Kamara said: "This campaign highlights how important grassroots football clubs are to the community they are based in, helping to develop local talent and improve the confidence of players.

"Without tradespeople willing to give up their time to help with this transformation programme, none of this would have been possible.

"The Game Changer Programme has been a huge success, and many more clubs could benefit, so look out for the next window of applications."

David Sturdee, chief customer officer at Howdens, said: "Our Champions of the Trade Day has been a way for us to say thank you and celebrate the tradespeople that we work with."
