Emergency services rushed to the scene of two separate multi-vehicle crashes where a section of the M40 was closed.
According to National Highways, the incident occurred around 9pm on Saturday, August 24.
Officers from Thames Valley Police Road Policing reported that their RPU team from Taplow and Amersham attended the crash which occurred between Stokechurch and High Wycombe.
The Road Policing team said: “The Southbound carriageway is currently closed whilst Ambulance and Fire assist injured parties and Highways England clear the carriageway.”
National Highways said: "Traffic is being held intermittently to assist at the scenes and contractors are working to clear the incidents on the M40 southbound between J5 (#Stokenchurch) and J4 (#HighWycombe).
"Traffic will be released shortly so please return to your vehicles. Apologies for the delays you have suffered this evening.”
Delays on the M40 included 100 minutes and approx. 6 miles of congestion.
At around 11pm, all lanes were reopened with residual delays of 45 minutes and approx. 5 miles of congestion.”
