A notorious Top Gear star is set to open a traditional British pub just across the border from our town.

Jeremy Clarkson has praised Oxfordshire County Council ahead of the opening of his new pub.

The former Top Gear host is set to open The Farmer’s Dog by the A40 in Burford today (Friday, August 23).

He purchased The Windmill for around £1,000,000 and has set about giving the venue a makeover and renovating inside.

Mr Clarkson has recognised the help he has received from Oxfordshire County Council in getting the watering hole ready for business at such speed.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday night, Clarkson said: “Credit where credit is due.

“Our new pub opens tomorrow and this might sound odd but I’d like to thank Oxfordshire County Council for all their help.

“We couldn’t have done it so fast without you.

“They’ve been fantastic.”

This is the second time in a week that the 64-year-old has given praise to his local council regarding the new pub.

Earlier in the week he said: “The County Council is being extremely helpful.”

Fans of Prime Video show Clarkson’s Farm know that Clarkson is no stranger to being at loggerheads with governing bodies.

West Oxfordshire District Council has faced a backlash from fans of the Prime Video show after quarrelling with the 64-year-old star at several points.

This included the council threatening to enact an enforcement notice on the farm shop in Chadlington to stop it from selling non-local food.
