Buckinghamshire’s ongoing Zipp scooter outage is taking ‘longer to resolve than hoped’, Bucks Council has said.

The local authority began taking the vehicles off the county’s roads due to an ‘unexpected issue’ near the beginning of last month.

Irish firm Zipp has three fleets of the scooters across Bucks in Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Princes Risborough.

The machines are available to rent to residents via an app as part of a trial with the council, which was extended until May 31, 2026 earlier this year.

The council’s cabinet member for transport Steven Broadbent provided an update on the situation this week.

He said: “Unfortunately, the unexpected supplier issue involving our e-scooters is taking a little longer to resolve than we had initially hoped.

“It means that the e-scooters, which are part of the trial scheme in Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Princes Risborough, are still unavailable for use but we are continuing to work with the supplier and the Department for Transport to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and have e-scooters available for hire again as soon as possible.”

In recent weeks, the Zipp app has disappeared from online stores and local authorities, including Slough, have said they do not know what the specific issues with the scooters are.

Charlie Wilson, UK country manager for Zipp, said last week that the company was ‘working on a solution’ to resume e-scooter services as quickly as possible.
