Budget supermarket chain Aldi has axed its click-and-collect scheme in High Wycombe – here’s why and when it comes into effect.

Four years after launching the service at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aldi withdrew its click-and-collect option from the 200 stores it was originally rolled out in this week.

The scheme was perfect for lockdown living, letting customers pay for products online and then head in-store to pick up bits and bobs and grocery essentials without having to leave their car.

After a gradual reduction in the sites offering the service – some of which saw the initiative axed as early as last summer – Aldi scrapped the service at more than 200 stores still involved in the scheme on Monday, August 19.

That includes the branch on Baker Street in High Wycombe as well as the supermarket at Westcroft Retail Park in Milton Keynes, on Osier Way in Buckingham and Watling Street in Bletchley.

A spokesperson for the company told The Sun the move was part of a drive to boost ‘efficiency’, adding that click-and-collect was always intended to be run as a trial rather than a permanent fixture.

They said: “At Aldi, our focus is on providing customers with high-quality products at the lowest possible prices.

“One of the ways we keep our prices low for customers is by running the most efficient supermarket business in Britain.

“As a result, we’ve made the decision to bring our click-and-collect service to an end so we can focus on doing just that.”
