The landlord of an Old Amersham pub has opened up on how things have been since his business relaunched following a nearly £300,000 refurbishment.
The Eagle, which is based along the High Street in the village, closed for roughly two months earlier this year to undergo a revamp which cost approximately £277,000.
The Grade II listed pub, which dates back to the 1700s, reopened its doors to the public in June, and has been met with rave reviews from regulars and those stopping by.
Landlord Michael Taylor, who moved to Buckinghamshire from Kent, to take over the boozer, told the Free Press: “We have been really busy since we reopened in June and it’s been great.
“With the refurbishment, it’s a mix of the pub’s history with a lot of modern twists so it’s a good mixture of old and new.
“We’ve had a wide range in terms of the demographic that have come in, as we’ve had teenagers and young people to people who used to go to the pub 30 to 40 years ago.
“It’s lovely and we’re in a lovely area.”
The Eagle, which is owned by Heineken-owned Star Pubs, had been closed for more than six weeks between April and June, where they underwent some notable changes, with festoon lights, heaters and smart new furniture all being added in.
The pub is also dog-friendly and offers a wide range of activities throughout the summer such as karaoke, stand-up gigs and the odd quiz.
And even though the High Street venue doesn’t provide food, punters can order meals and dine within the establishment.
The positive rapport with customers has led to a rise of positive Google Reviews online, with the pub having an average score of 4.5/5 from 240 testimonials.
One of the most recent reviews reads: “Went in again last weekend after the umpteenth change of manager over the years and a refurb at last. It's like a different pub.
“Whilst it's still a small old country pub it's been fully refreshed so we felt we could sit down (walked out last time as so depressing).
“The young lady serving was a pleasure to deal with, chatty, efficient and tried to top up my beer cos it looked under the right level (I'd taken a sip, which I told her).
“A nice view out the back over the playing fields.”
Another reads: “Service and beer was very good with friendly bar staff. Very characterful interior and a beer garden backing onto a stream and fields. Lovely.”
