A popular pub on the Buckinghamshire border has been named runner-up Pub of the Year in the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)’s central Southern England category.
The King’s Arms in Tring, a family-run pub on King Street specialising in good quality pub grub and locally sourced ales, clocked in at third place on the CAMRA’s Pub of the Year round-up for the central southern region, just behind The Bell at Aldworth in Reading and The Cross Keys at Wallingford in Oxfordshire.
It was awarded Pub of the Year for CAMRA’s Mid Chilterns region in the spring, with owner and landlord Rob Muirhead describing the title as “a privilege and an honour”, especially coming just over a decade since he took the mantle at the colourful boozer back in January 2014.
CAMRA branches around the country select a venue to be their Pub of the Year on an annual basis – with regional winners progressing to national awards and jostling for recognition on an ever-wider scale.
It’s no surprise The King’s Arms is a regular feature in the crème-de-la-crème pickings – the self-declared cosy tavern with wood panelling interiors and a brick-walled courtyard has an impressive 4.6 stars on Google from over 400 reviews.
Recent customers described it as “hands down the best pub I’ve ever been to”, “authentic, charming and traditionally English” and “characterful with a lovely community atmosphere”.
