A new bar run by the former brand director of a tropical-themed cocktail bar with venues around the world is opening this week.
Monty’s, at the former site of Clayton’s bar on Oxford Road, will launch a two-day soft opening this Friday and Saturday, inviting locals to get a taste of the “escapist” addition to Marlow’s nightlife scene.
Founder Matt Jolley told the Free Press earlier this year that he considers the venture a personal labour of love and a reflection of his years “living out of suitcases” while hopping between different branches of Mahiki during his time as brand director.
Customers can expect a wide-ranging cocktail menu and ‘beach club’ food – think lobster rolls, salads and cheeseburgers.
Picking up the mantle from popular bar Clayton’s, which closed in 2022, Matt is convinced that Monty’s will bring something new to the area – inspired more than anything else by his travels to Southern France, especially in the new site’s garden area and Mediterranean-feel courtyard entrance.
He said: “It’s so lovely to be launching Monty’s in Marlow because it’s a beautiful area and everyone is so welcoming.
“Because we’re independent, there’s a lot of room for creativity – the food is hopefully going to change depending on the season, and in winter the décor will have more of an Alpine Lodge feel to it.
“One of the main things I’ve learned in my career is the importance of paying attention to the little things. It’s about those finishing touches and not just offering a drink or a meal, but an experience.”
Monty’s will be open from 5pm on August 9 and 10.
