Chalfont St Peter could have two new retail arrivals on its hands – with a Tesco Express store and Greggs bakery lined up for its High Street.
1 Bishops House on the village’s Market Place, next to the newly-announced Tesco in Bishop’s House, is set to transform into one of the UK’s most popular fast-food chains, if planning proposals submitted to Buckinghamshire Council are to be believed.
An agent on behalf of Greggs PLC applied for permission to install a new shopfront, signage, extract grilles and air conditioning condenser units at the site on July 23, complete with mocked-up glimpses at what the now-empty unit could look like in just a few months if all goes to plan.

The retail site is listed as ‘under offer’ on Rightmove under agents Brasier Freeth, who describe it as being in a “prime central location” and part of “a mixed-use property, with an open-plan retail area to the front, rear ancillary area with toilets and rear service access”.
According to planning documents, the Greggs store would have two full-time and ten part-time employees – and permission is sought to hang the bakery’s famous logo outside as soon as September 2024.
Greggs has been contacted for comment on the plans. Would you be excited to see it go ahead?
