A High Wycombe home is to become a house in multiple occupation (HMO) for up to 12 people after Buckinghamshire Council approved the plans.
Applicant Mr S Smith was given the green light to convert the detached two-storey property at 216 West Wycombe Road.
He has been granted a certificate of lawfulness to turn the house into a six-bedroom HMO, a house with at least three tenants – often used for student accommodation.
The property to be converted is across the road from Desborough Park and next door to the Clifton Lodge Hotel.
Mr Smith’s plans stated: “This form of development will provide much needed accommodation and respect other similar uses within the vicinity.
“With regard to the parking provision onsite we are retaining the existing six spaces. This will be more than adequate for six bedrooms.”
Plans showed that two bedrooms were proposed for the ground floor with another four bedrooms on the first floor.
A planning officer said the bedrooms were ‘sizeable enough to be able to cater for a bed for two people or 12 people in total’.
They wrote: “Failure to comply with the restriction on the use of the HMO for six persons may leave the applicant open to enforcement action.”
Adding: “The grant of the certificate of lawfulness proposed use (CLP) application is a separate permission to the HMO license under different legislations. In this instance, a HMO license is required to submit and apply from the licencing team.”
